This radio has an outstanding set of features that would appear to make it a great emergency radio for the home. It has nearly every conceivable feature in an emergency radio that covers al the bases in one small unit. Unfortunately, The radio's performance is so wide of the mark that I can't recommend it.

The radio suffers from two serious performance flaws: Strong FM stations can prevent reception on some TV channels. This "image rejection" problem is well known in receiver design. You should check if the TV channel you intent to listen to can be received at your home. I had one strong TV channel that my 10 year old GE radio could receive just fine that was completely blocked on this radio. Keep in mind that in a real disaster you may not be able to hear same stations because the stations themselves have lost power. What if the only station you can hear is rendered useless because of this receiver's poor performance?

Secondly it is not nearly as sensitive as other, cheaper weather radios. The Midland WR-300 is a far superior performer at pulling in weak weather broadcast stations. In side-by-side tests over -several days the Midland could easily hear two stations while this radio could only hear static.

Also, the design had several ergonomic issues. If, like most of us, you're right handed, you'll find the crank placement cumbersome since it's on the left side of the radio. Also the tuning display has no back light making reading it in the dark very hard. Third it really needs a carrying handle, which the cheaper model FR300 has (but it lacks an AC adapter). This alone might have me decide in favor of the FR350 since, even after you purchase an AC adapter at Radio Shack, your still ahead dollar wise and you have a nice handle!

This unit was unable to charge my cell phone completely (an LG VX3200). The cell phone display indicated "charging complete" sooner than I expected. Sure enough it still kept charging on its own charger. I suspect that is due to the wimpy AC adapter included.

On the positive side: The tuning knob works well and the radio is easy to tune. The audio is very clean and clear even at moderately load levels. With the exception of the crank, most of the controls are well laid out and clearly marked. The operation is fairly self explanatory so any member of the household should be able to use it effectively in an emergency once they become familiar with it.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any real, direct competition for this radio given its excellent features. I'm disappointed that Eton, which prides itself on its radio design expertise, would have designed a radio with such poor performance. I'm also a little dismayed that the American Red Cross would put its name on a radio that might not work when it's needed most. I can't recommend this radio.

let me first say the speaker sounds great. the person that i contacted to install some new speakers in the house recommended these, i was looking at some polk s at first.

i cant rate them any higher due to the sellers listing a 10yr warranty which proficient will not honor.

so why did i buy them you ask, i was given some amazon points as part of a contest at work and it was worth the risk. if it was my own hard earned dollars, i would have purchased from a local dealer in order to get the 10yr warranty.

This platter mat demonstrated an immediate difference in sound quality. Not nearly as much static as with the old rubber mat I was using. I do still hear some static but that probably has more to do with my old records than the mat. The added bonus is the way it looks. Beautiful, quality suede. Makes for a nice touch.

Let me start by saying that I work for a company that sells these. They retail at $79.95 + tax, and even with my employee discount Amazon came in cheaper! The sound quality of this is amazing. We use these to play music for our stores using our phones to stream the music. Its a great way to show/display the product to customers because without actually hearing it it would be hard to describe the quality. The sound it puts out fills our entire showroom floor! Clear, and without feedback too! Everyone that hears it wants one! I have used other iSound products before, including their ICE crystal clear compact speakers, and FIRE speaker. I thought the FIRE speaker which retails at $29.99 was amazing for the price, until this. I will tell you though, they are smaller than they appear in most images. They are about as long as a pen and a half and an inch and a half long. There are 2 speakers located in the front, and one passive woofer in the back. You can also answer calls using bluetooth! Perfect for hands-free conversations. Cooking supper? Working on your car? Perfect for listening to music and not missing calls. And for those that don't have bluetooth, it comes with an optional aux. cable which works with most phones. As a write this review, I'm listening to music wireless through my labtop. I usually recommend these to my customer's for gift ideas. Almost EVERYONE has a phone, and a lot of them capable of playing music. I got this because I needed to build a low cost audiophile system (an oxymoron?) for a second house. It was highly rated by Stereophile and fit my self-imposed budget. It really delivers and pairs well with the PSB Alpha B1 mains. I have not used the Stereophile test CD on it yet to determine quantitatively how it performs, but my ears tell me it does pretty well.

Music Hall - Marimba - Bookshelf Loudspeakers (PR) Review

Not a bad speaker for the money but limited bass and rounded off treble limit a good effort IMO. Midrange is good and speaker seems well built, but nothing special. IMHO I suggest you try Polk for the same price model RTI A1. Auditioned with Marantz CD player and Cabridge Audio and also Marantz integrated. I think this speaker is overrated by CNET and Stereophile reviews but suggest you trust your ears, speaker choice is quite personal.
