Length:: 1:46 MinsI installed my Pyle Audio PT678HBA 5.1 surround-sound system a couple of weeks ago and am ready to share my thoughts. Initially, I was very impressed, but I didn't get overly excited until I had lived with it for a little while. But, I'm glad to say that even after hours of listening and watching television and movies, I'm still very happy with my new system.
Installation was pretty easy. I had never installed a home theater system on my own before, so I was kind of nervous about that. My living space is about 10' x 12', which isn't huge, but still, I've heard horror stories about some of these home theater-in-a-box systems and how the wires aren't long enough to put the speakers where you want them in your room. Not the case here, everything connected easily and all the wires allowed me to put the speakers right where I wanted them. And everything worked the first time I turned it on; I was not expecting that! Not because of the system, but because of my own limited technical knowledge and this being my first home theater setup.
When I first turned it on and gave it some juice, the upgrade over my old sound bar was noticeable immediately. The room filled with sound and "Monday Night Football" was instantly way better in surround. I then started flipping all over, looking for a movie or something to make the subwoofer go off. I found an animated Pixar movie (I forget which one) and it was great. Sounds shot across my room and the rumble of the subwoofer made me feel like I was in a movie theater.
But, here's my favorite part of the entire system: The remote control. I can't stand remotes where I need a user manual the size of a dictionary just to figure out how to reduce the volume of the center channel. This remote is SO easy. Each speaker has a button on there for you to turn the volume up or down on just that specific speaker. Want more bass? There are buttons clearly labeled "+ bass" and "-bass." How great is that? I can easily go from 5.1 to 2.1 or even 3.1. I did it all very easily with clearly labeled buttons. Pretty much every single function I could want is right on that remote. This was a big plus for me.
Pro's:
-Easy installation
-Awesome remote
-Good, solid sound at this price point (and I auditioned others in this range)
-Good length of supplied wire
-Relatively small speakers that don't dominate the living space visually
-Wall mount options
-Subwoofer integrates really well with the satellites
Con's
-The manual wasn't awful, but not terribly helpful either
-Wall mount options weren't included, I'll need to get some.
-No supplied HDMI cable
