Sanus 34 -Inch Steel Speaker Stand Review

I use the Sanus SF-34 speaker stands to hold a pair of Polk Audio Monitor 30 AM3025-A 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Pair, Black) in surround position (9lb each). I purchased these from wayfair dot com for a significant price reduction. The tubes are hollow and can be filled with shot or sand for extra ballast, but I didn't bother. I'm not the slightest bit worried about their falling over under normal conditions. In my estimation, they have to be tipped about 15 degrees to the side with about 5lb of force before they'll tip over. Tipping forward or backward requires even more effort. Stand assembly was pretty straightforward. The phillips head screws have deep heads, so stripping the screw heads is unlikely. The finish is a heavy textured paint. There are two feet shapes (left and right sided) to account for the curved base. The feet won't sit flat if they're in the wrong position. Notably, my feet didn't sit completely flat even when installed properly: The outside edge of the foot held proud from a hard, flat surface. I don't believe it's an issue once the rubber nubs or carpet spikes are installed, and I've experienced no problems with the rubber nubs on my carpet.

One tip. Because the tubes are so tall, it's possible for the top plate to be crooked relative to the base. Ensure the top mounting plate is square with the base before tightening the top plate screws.

As other reviews have mentioned, the cable management system is pretty cheesy on these stands. It's just a couple of optional flat plastic loops that can be installed between the plates and tubes. (See additional uploaded picture). They stick out from the back of the stand, a cheap detraction from an otherwise top quality stand. You'll likely want to fashion some other cable management solution.

The stands come with screws for mounting a few different types of speakers, if those speakers happen to have mounting holes. My Polk Monitor 30s have no such mounting holes. I just opted for the trusty ol' velcro option at the four corners of the mounting plate. There's no chance my speakers will come loose.

Despite the -1 star for a cheesy cable management system, I think these stands are hefty, stylish, and classy. Even my HGTV-addicted wife gives them a thumbs up!
