Product Description
The NHT Four tower loudspeaker is basically a Classic Three bookshelf sitting on top of a subwoofer, each in its own, optimized chamber. NHT has been using this method for towers since the beginning. The Four is very similar in tonality to its predecessors the 3.3 and 2.9. The real technical feat for us was to achieve the same performance in 30% less cabinet than the originals. The Four is a 4-way configuration, with the same driver compliment as the Classic Three plus the addition of a long-throw, 10-Inch side-loaded woofer. There are two sets of input connections so the Four can be optionally bi-amped for more control over bass response. The Four is built with 1-Inch dense fiberboard and dressed in 7 coats of high-gloss, piano-black paint. Only 7.5-Inch wide, the Four becomes complimentary to its room environment. Sold in mirror image pairs (L+R).NHT Classic Four Floor Standing Tower Speaker-Right (Piano-Gloss Black, Single) Review
After having owned quite a few speakers over the years, and a few pairs of NHTs, I have been completely enamored with the Classic 4s. They are by far the best speakers I have heard from NHT. They're also very flat and accurate. I can pick out instruments because these have very good imaging. The response across the spectrum is also very smooth. Vocals are clean and airy. I really think they are the best towers NHT has produced since their 3.3s and 2.9s.If you feed these things with enough juice, you really don't need to bi-amp them nor do you need a separate subwoofer. These things have very good bottom end and can even play rap and rock nicely. I have enjoyed these speakers for over 2 weeks and I resisted writing a review until I lived with them for a while. I have watched some blurays over again and let me say that I started hearing things I don't recall the first one or two times I've watched them. I also paired these with the Classic 3C Center speaker and, WOW! The vocals are matched perfectly and the sound is so smooth and strong. Nothing can tax these things! I've also found that I don't have to turn up the volume as much as these are a bit more efficient than previous NHT designs. They play very smooth!
Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend these to a friend and I would say that if you think this is too much to pay for a speaker, then you should demo them and see how the compare. You will be pleasantly surprised at how smooth and clear they sound. They're also built like tanks and the piano gloss finish on them is bar none. They won't look out of place in your home and they probably would enhance the look of anyone's setup. They not only sound very good, they look like works of art!
