PRO-JECT - PHONO BOX Mk2 BLACK Review
I bought one of these (in silver) to connect my Pro-Ject Debut III turntable to an aux input of my main stereo amp.The unit arrived very securely packed with a printed manual. It is built as solidly as an industrial grade piece of gear and the fit and finish is impeccable. The amp itself is slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes so it can be easily hidden away out of sight if you want.
There is no power switch but that hasn't been an issue for me. I've left mine running for three years now with no problems. I've checked several times but there's never been any noticeable heat build up in that time.
There is a switch on the back to adjust the gain for use with either MM or MC cartridges, a nice feature that isn't common at this price range. The only minor issue I had with mine during setup was that the MM setting didn't quite have enough gain to work with my MM cartridge. I set the switch to MC and it's worked fine since.
This a product I can recommend wholeheartedly. The only downside is that the price has risen considerably since I bought mine. If I was buying now I might consider spending a little more for a Bellari Tube preamp since I don't mind the little bit of extra effort a tube preamp would take to maintain. But if you want a set it and forget it phono preamp for under $200 I'd say this one is the way top go.
