This deck only has dolby B. It doesn't have dolby-S.

It might be tempting to go on amazon marketplace and buy some new dolby S albums, with a dolby S deck.

Dolby S was the best dolby noise reduction system. Also this machine doesn't have auto levels.

Two things about this. Dolby S tapes still sound good on this deck. When I had auto levels with my sony, the system would have to adjust itself during songs at times. It's probably more characteristic of a professional deck to do your own levels on recordings.

If you need a tape deck, you might as well buy this. The price is way down and the quality is ridiculously high.

I purchased "Presto" by Rush on tape on amazon marketplace. I am listening to it right now, and am completely shocked at how good it sounds. It is an album that sounded harsh to me on CD, sounds amazing on tape.

Eventually your going to have an issue with a Sony. This is more a tape deck for a radio station, but at this price, enjoy it in your home. Highly recommended.
