G-28 Flat panel speakerKlipsch Gallery G-28 Flat Panel Speaker (1) Review
A great buy on sale at $189. I had my eye on these for the past several months waiting for the price to drop. Black Friday's price $269, I pulled the trigger and bought one as my center. I was premature (heard that before). I should have waited till Monday, the price dropped to $189 for three days, then back up to $269. After Christmas they went back down to $189 and I picked up two more. For me, the way a speaker looks is as important as the way it sounds. It could be the best sounding speaker in the world at a bargain basement price, but if it doesn't look and fit right in my living room, I will never own it. I went in this expecting a slight a trade off in sound quality considering these only have 3.5" drivers and passive radiators but am pleasantly surprised. A quality subwoofer is a necessity. I have these coupled with the amazing Hsu VTF-1 MK2 subwoofer (the best $449 I've ever spent) crossed over at 90hz. The set up sounds sweet, very clear highs (which I love). I watch a lot of movies as well as listen to music ( mostly R&B rock 60's to 90's). These speakers are freakin beautiful with their piano black finish. I'm displaying them without the cloth grilles. I used the word "display' because these are a work of art. Stunning. I have my three framing my 40" Sony LCD with the center on top ( check out pic). I'm very pleased with my purchase at the prices I paid. I would not however, pay the full $499 retail price, maybe $350 and that's a big maybe.UPDATE 3/10
I love these speakers.I've used mine just about daily for the last 2 months and enjoy the crispness of the dialogue that the horns provide. The long throw woofers and passive radiators do a nice job of handling the mid-lower end to 90 hz where my Hsu VTF-1 MK2 sub kicks in.
The only negative thing I can say about these beauties is that you will quickly determine that some of your m recordings, whether mp3, dvd or cd are sub par,(sound like crap)at least I have. That's not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just paying better attention when purchasing media, making sure the copies I buy are from master recordings. Not a copy of a copy etc.
I will be adding 4 Klipsch G-12's to complete my 7.1 system when I can catch them on sale for under $100. I've seen them as low as $89 around Black Friday - Cyber Monday. Undoubtedly, they will be again. I am a patient man.
